Minh Trí – 7.0 IELTS: When a passion for IT meets language logic

Not born a “top student”

Minh Trí wasn’t the type to raise his hand a lot or stand out at first. When he started learning IELTS, his English foundation was limited: weak grammar, limited vocabulary, unclear writing and speaking skills.

“At the beginning, I felt weaker than others. Often, after tests, I only saw mistakes. But I liked English, I just didn’t know how to study it.”

What made Trí special was his curiosity and proactiveness. If he didn’t understand something, he asked. If he made mistakes, he tried to figure out how to fix them. And he was especially interested in finding the “mechanisms” behind the language — similar to how he learned programming.

When tech thinking meets language learning

As a technology lover, Trí quickly approached English learning as a kind of “logic puzzle.” Guided by Minimal English, he began to understand:

Writing isn’t about memorizing formulas but structuring ideas clearly and presenting them logically.
Reading doesn’t require translating every word but identifying the logical flow and main information.
Speaking isn’t about rehearsed answers but naturally expressing what you think, using simple, context-appropriate language.

Each skill, each learning step was “decoded” like a line of code. Thanks to that, Trí no longer saw English as something vague or mysterious.

First test: 6.5 – not perfect but motivating

After nearly a year of study, Trí took his first IELTS test. He scored 6.5 overall — decent but he knew he could do better. He brought his results back and scheduled a one-on-one consultation with his teacher Luna for detailed analysis.

Just a week later, Trí decided to retake the test with the One Skill Retake format, focusing on the skill he wanted to improve.

The result: 7.0 overall – a small score jump, a giant leap in mindset

“Now I know how to learn!”

Trí no longer asks “Why am I so weak?” but instead asks “Where did I study the wrong way?”

From a student with a weak foundation, Trí has learned how to analyze mistakes himself, adjust learning strategies, and know exactly what to do daily to improve.

This is not just a test lesson — it’s a skill that will follow him forever, whether he studies English, programming, or anything else.
