Trí Dũng – 7.0 IELTS: The quiet student choosing steadiness over rushing

Starting with a modest score

When Trí Dũng began studying at Minimal English, he was a grade 12 student at Hoa Binh – La Trobe High School, Hanoi. He wasn’t outstanding or talkative, nor did he “shoot English words rapidly” like some classmates. His entry IELTS score was 5.0, and his English knowledge was average.

No one expected too much. But it was Dũng’s quiet, steady attitude that laid a solid foundation for his journey.

Slow starters don’t always finish last

Dũng didn’t ask many questions or complain. He quietly listened, took notes, did assignments — and especially was very receptive to feedback.

Speaking was his weakest skill at first — but he diligently recorded himself speaking, listened back, and corrected every small mistake.

Writing was the hardest for him because of limited vocabulary — but he read more, learned words in context, and rewrote corrected sentences.

Listening and Reading weren’t standout skills but he never skipped any practice. Day by day, he improved bit by bit.

Dũng didn’t compete or compare. He studied as if it was his personal responsibility — and each lesson, quiz, and correction was a building block to a new foundation.

7.0 IELTS – a quiet but well-deserved achievement

After consistent study, Dũng took his first IELTS test and scored 7.0 overall — a result that deeply moved his Minimal English teachers. Because beyond the score was how much he matured in his learning mindset.

Now, Trí Dũng is a freshman at British University Vietnam, ready to enter an international environment where English is a tool, not a barrier.
